REI KAWAKUBO: BOLDNESS, CREATIVITY AND A TOUCH OF DECONSTRUCTION.

Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo launched her brand Comme des Garçons in 1969. The designer, who had studied literature and art, decided to enter the fashion world and became an iconic figure. In 1975, the first Comme des Garçons fashion show took place in Tokyo.
When it arrived in Paris in 1981, the brand was the subject of much controversy as it surprised Parisians, who were not sensitive to its irregular, ambiguous and revolutionary style. It shocked as much as it deconstructed clothing. A precursor of the almost abusive use of black in her collections, the designer has made monochrome her signature. The press even describes her collections as "Hiroshima Chic".

By deconstructing the diktats of fashion, Rei Kawakubo goes against the grain of the smooth image of haute couture. Comme des Garçons' non-conformist style and personality are its strength. The designer sets no limits for herself and explores her creativity and freedom, using it without ever abusing it. The brand has established itself in the fashion world with a style all its own and has become a household name for all generations. The clothes speak to both women and men.
Rei Kawakubo has built an empire by creating ten lines within the Comme des Garçons group. Each of the lines corresponds to a universe: Play, Wallet, Perfume, Girl....
Comme des Garçons is also a history of collaboration with designers. The brand has given designers the chance to make their debut in the fashion world, as with Junya Watanabe.
